IF I DIE IN MISSISSIPPI “Holographic Heartache”
This latest release from Gulfport, MS artist If I Die In Mississippi is an atmospheric collage of hazy field recordings, ambient sounds, and obscured vocals, that meanders casually through multiple genres of music.
The opening theme of the album is a ten minute journey that borders on meditative. The second half of this piece is entitled "meet me in montauk tattoo," which will conjure a lot of ideas of everlasting surreal love (for fans of the film 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.')
The artist behind If I Die In Mississippi, Jenny Mignon, always seems to know how to choose evocative track titles, such the brief sixth track, "ice cream truck turf war." Her penchant for unusual subject matter and themes extends to each track having a different feel or seeming like it is from a different genre of music. The next-to-the-last track, "Mushy," is 100% bedroom pop, replete with the strangely satisfying jangle of an acoustic guitar and the warm buzz of a lo-fi vocal.
Holigraphic Heartache is a wandering daydream through a cloudy and solitary landscape filled with curious stories and far off sounds. Available now on cassette from Z Tapes.
